Apple has introduced a feature that allows iPhone users with an Apple Watch to unlock their phone via Face ID when wearing a face mask. Face ID will detect when your face is partially covered, and subsequently, scan the other half of your face.
The feature requires you to have iOS 14.5 or later installed on your phone and watchOS 7.4 on your Apple Watch. Please also make sure that you own an iPhone that supports Face ID as well as an Apple Watch Series 3 or higher.
How to set up Unlock iPhone with Apple Watch:
- Go into your iPhone’s settings.
- Select "Face ID & Passcode".
- Scroll down to “Unlock with Apple Watch” and toggle the switch to the green ON position.
Once you have set up the feature on your phone, you will be ready to unlock it with your Apple Watch. Do make sure that your Apple Watch is on your wrist, unlocked, and protected by a passcode.
The first time you want to unlock your phone with your watch, you will be asked to enter your passcode manually on your iPhone. If the unlocking process is successful, you will receive a haptic buzz on your wrist.
Once you take off your Apple Watch, you will need to re-enter your passcode when putting it on again. After this initial set-up, all following unlocking attempts will happen swiftly and seamlessly, without the need to enter a passcode.
